Cartagena Botanical Gardens

January 25th, 2011 — 6:23pm

So I went to the Botanical Gardens an hour from where I was staying in Cartagena.  It was amazingly beautiful, and super low key. There was a family at the spot that showed me mad love, rum shots, games, etc.  There is a creek and stream that fill the swimming pool that is super fresh and refreshing.  The “Patrick Liberty Akomplice Travel Guide” gives this spot two thumbs up. Recommendation- Bring cute girls, good friends, a bottle of rum, water, lunch, swimsuits, and a deck of cards and you’re set for the day. To see more pics of this beautiful garden click here.

Ak Buildout – Backside

January 22nd, 2011 — 11:32am

Akomplice recently constructed our first full in-store buildout, at Backside, Burbank California. The buildout was custom designed by Mike Smalls, and put together by the Backside and Akomplice crew. The cool thing about the buildout is that in a way it’s like a mini Akomplice shop within Backside, hosting the newest AK collections and the past favorites. Choosing Backside was easy, we’ve been working with Backside since 2006 and have grown fond of what they do and who they are. If you’re ever in the LA area make sure to check the buildout and Backside, located right in the heart of the LA valley. Backside has streetwear lines including: The Hundreds, Huf, 10 Deep, Akomplice, Mishka, and Obey, to name a few. In addition to clothing Backside also hand selects what they consider the best new and classic music, available on both cd and vinyl. The Empire Records of the real world, Backside has been in business for 14 years and ain’t goin’ nowhere. We’re proud of the new partnership and hope you get a chance to see it. If you visit Backside in the next month, say the phrase: Mike’s better at Busta Move than Eric. By saying this you’ll be rewarded with a free flask. Check more photos right… here!

Akomplice x H-Town Sneaker Summit “Space City” T-Shirt

January 21st, 2011 — 2:41pm

This Sunday the H-Town Sneaker Summit will be holding its Seventh Annual Winter Event at Houston’s Premier Sports and Entertainment Complex, The Toyota Center, also known as the home of the Houston Rockets NBA Franchise. To commemorate this monumental event, Akomplice Clothing will be releasing an exclusive colorway of the Akomplice x H-Town Sneaker Summit ‘Space City’ tee which was previously available only to attendees at the H-Town Sneaker Summit. The tee features one of the all time greats, Michael Jordan, being denied by Houston Rockets’ legend, Hakeem Olajuwon. In the Mid-Nineties, Hakeem led the Houston Rockets in Back To Back Championships interrupting the Bulls Dynasty, while MJ enjoyed his first retirement hiatus. Many basketball fans to this day still debate what would have happened if these two teams ever faced each other in the NBA Finals, however two NBA Championship Trophies continue to reside in Houston, also known as “Space City”. The tees front graphic offers a parody of the cult classic Space Jam movie which featured Jordan himself, while the back displays a countdown clock inspired by both of the Champion’s past victories. The Akomplice Clothing x H-Town Sneaker Summit “Space City” Tee will be made available world wide for the first time Sunday, January 23rd at noon in extremely limited quantities only on our Akomplice web store. More pictures after the jump.

Martin Luther King, Jr. 1929 – 1968

January 17th, 2011 — 2:20pm

Akomplice has the utmost respect for what Martin Luther King Jr. did and for who he was. We feel blessed to share a century with this man, and thought it appropriate to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day by looking at the continued impact he makes on our world today. MLKJ means so much not only to African Americans, but to anyone who believes in needed change. This man feeds our courage to stand up for what we believe in whether we are alone or with many.  His memory breeds inspiration to achieve our greatest dreams, even when faced with insurmountable odds. Martin Luther King Jr. made ripples that will affect millions, but to us he stands for more than his accomplishments in this life; he stands for the potential that every single human being has to make a change in this life.  If he can do it, we can do it!  We’d like to give a shout to MLK and say Thank You for creating a better world, not only for African Americans, but for everyone. Check some of the MLK inspired graphics created by Akomplice made for t-shirts. Note: the top graphic is used exclusively for this blog post.

2004: Spring. The above “We Need A Leader” graphic was designed during George Bush Jr.’s term as president. Fortunately, we have Obama as a leader now.

2006: Summer. The above “Commemorate and Celebrate” graphic was designed to Commemorate the people who lived strong, courageous lives.  It’s our turn now!

Eyes lie so I keep an open mind

January 14th, 2011 — 12:54pm

Eyes lie so I keep an open mind. It seams that much of our reality is based from our perception. Our perception is based largely from our experiences, giving our experience a large bias towards what we perceive to be the world. Considering the idea that no two humans will ever live an identical experience gives insight to the concept that every person in the world perceives every experience differently, even if just slightly. Let’s make sure to keep an open mind towards life and our interactions with it. Keep learning, keep living; it feels and seams that less concrete mind state equals more growth and freedom. The above design is a sneak peak and will soon hit AK retailers worldwide. See the full design on a t-shirt/ back print here.
