Your Tax Dollars at Work

February 11th, 2013

If you’ve picked up an Akomplice tee in past months you’ll know that they come attached with a wheat paste kit that allows you to post the AK Times poster on walls in your city. We often have joked about sending bags of white powder in the mail, but never expected we’d actually run into any issue, especially not with a government agency in Puerto Rico. We recently recieved an e-mail from our friend Keri, the co-owner of Treats, an awesome boutique in PR, that read as follows:

Hey Patrick,
you’ll never guess what happened…
we were visited by Special Agent Jim Spalding US Army Criminal Investigation Command because a kid on the army base was “caught” with the wheat paste kit and the teacher freaked out thinking it was drugs and I guess therefore that we are selling drugs to kids out of the store. The package was sent off to the lab to be tested.
Bonkers.
We weren’t here but I called him and he’s coming tomorrow to take a statement.
PR is daft – I think it’s funny but P is mad as hell.
Thought you might find it interesting though…”

Maybe it was inevitable. Either way Akomplice getting a little attention from Uncle Sam is funny as hell. Your tax dollars at work.
