Akomplice Builds Water Pump In Africa

November 26th, 2011

The Akomplice X Good Wood X Chace Infinite project has raised enough money to build a water pump, called an Elephant Pump, in the village of Bulikumwendo, Republic of Malawi, Africa. The Pump Aid organization, is the foundation we worked with to execute the building of this pump. The pump will produce around 300 gallons daily, an Elephant Pump’s water capacity over the span of a year could be over 100,000 gallons, which means our pump has the potential to produce over a million gallons of water in its first ten years. The Bulikumwendo village has a population of 61, eleven of them being orphans. By eliminating water-born diseases, the health of the community as a whole will improve. Their economy can improve through activities such as gardening, increasing the amount of food as well as providing an extra source of income for the community and its families, an income that could be spent on education along with other essentials most of us take for granted.  Listen to the exclusive song titled “Africa” that Chance Infinite recorded for this project and find out more about the collaboration.

Ricky Powell Loves Akomplice

November 2nd, 2011

Intro: I’m the third, often most conspicuous and unknown McCarney brother. My older brother Mike designs, Pat takes care of business and keeps the family in check, and I’m currently studying art in New York. I spent the last 3 years living in France and Switzerland enjoying the fine food and women Europe had to offer. My name is Shawn Alexander McCarney, and its time to share a tale or two.

A week ago I get a message from Pat asking if I know Ricky Powell, and less than a week later I find myself sitting on the street at dusk chatting to the legendary photographer himself. Ricky has recently had a tribute issue of “Frank” released and wanted to personally sign one for the Akomplice crew. The man loves our New York Crimes hat and literally wears the thing everywhere. We chatted for about an hour in what he called his “makeshift office” which was a fire hydrant  on the corner of 18th street and 6th avenue, where he discovered how uneducated I was in old school hip-hop. “You’re a nice kid, but you don’t know shit. We’ll have to educate you.” It’s funny because that’s what my brother says to me all the time. Some things never change.
