SXSW: Dark Sister

Caught up with Dark Sister, a dope group from Nashville on Owl Head Collective. We stumbled into their show by accident, but in the end they stood out as one of the highlight performances during SXSW. The group is comprised of the two girls below (the dude is Patrick) each with a microphone. The performance energy was dark and sexual without letting the quality of music suffer. Photojournalist Jessica Lehrman was our host that night, which was the reason we ended up at the Rad Bus in the first place. She took some photos for you to see. Spring 2012 Look Book Part 3: X-Large

Our third stop of the day was at X-Large. Known for being one of the pioneers in the street-wear industry, it’s no surprise that they’ve been in the same Los Feliz location for over 20 years. After we wrapped up with Conveyor, we grabbed a quick bite with a long time friend, and then it was off to West LA to visit Black Market. We caught up with Sonia and Spencer, both long time employees. Check out the photos and the Q&A we did with both of them.

Akomplice: How long have you worked here?
Sonia: 2 years

Akomplice: Strangest customer in that time?
Sonia: Bai Ling Chinese model actress

Akomplice: Why?
Sonia: Just really weird. Whenever I ask her if she needs help she says she has never been to the store, but she comes in all the time. Maybe all the prescriptions she’s on?

Akomplice: Who is your favorite celeb who shops here?
Sonia: Matt Groening

Akomplice: Who are some of the other celebs who shop here?
Sonia: Tom Hanks, Colin Hanks (Tom Hanks son), David Beckham, Jamie Lee, David Cho, and Kreayshawn

Akomplice: What was your craziest day on the job in those 11 years?

Spencer: Dude stole from our store, I chased him down the street and knocked him out cold. Still dealing with court over that.
